Here's another big piece of news. Nokia has finally revealed the second half of its Mac OS connectivity strategy, with the release of Nokia Media Transfer 1.0 beta, adding to the existing iSync plugins with full sync of your iTunes music and videos, and your iPhoto images, to your S60 smartphone. There's full file transfer support too, for adding apps and games. Cool, cool, cool..... (via Tommi)
emoze, the popular and free push email and Calendar service for S60 and UIQ smartphones, has been given a major update to v1.4, with much increased efficiency top of the list of improvements, meaning a smaller hit on battery life. Here's the press release and here's the download page.
Nokia has launched a new S60 evengelist scheme, starting in New York and presumably in other world cities later. Here's the S60 Agents page, with details.
Hmm.... Ace detective Darla appears to have discovered a new facelift for PC Suite - she's found an Nseries-specific version over on the N76 Support pages. Anyone brave enough to see how it works with other Nseries devices? I wonder if it offers anything else we haven't seen before....
In response to criticism in PC Pro magazine(!) and lots of (well, ok, two) emails, I've added Windows Mobile smartphones back into my Grid of smartphone solutions. Now you can compare the best from the Symbian OS world and its main competitor. As ever, plug in your preferences and watch the magic 8-ball Javascript decide!
Ah, those endearingly crazy Russians, eschewing good English and web page design in favour of sheer, unadulterated detail. Mobile Review has produced a long and exhaustive look at the new MOTORiZR Z8 smartphone, running a version of UIQ 3 on Symbian OS.
Just announced by Vodafone UK, a brand new Vodafone Live web-squeezing portal (rebranded Google Mobile?), better access to popular webmail accounts and much cheaper data charges for all, effectively including £1 for up to 15MB(!) for prepay customers and £7.50 for 120MB per month for contract customers. The full press release follows...
It seems high profile blogger Robert Scoble has got himself a Nokia N95, with a clear month to assess it before his iPhone arrives. Yes, they're two different devices for largely different markets, but it'll still be interesting to see his analysis of the two, one after the other. (Via N95 Blog) (PS: Apple iPhone launch date 29th June, says the BBC - Ewan)
Python for S60 has been evolving steadily over the last year, but v1.3.22, just released, fixes quite a few longstanding issues, including one which prevented proper display of graphical text. Like many other part-time programmers, I can see myself fiddling with Python over the summer - here's the relevant Python discussion board thread and here's the v1.3.22 download page.
You'll have heard of Ajax and Mobile Ajax, in the context of enabling more interactive functionality on mobile web sites. A little bit developer-y, but credit to Ajit and others at Horizon for producing a comprehensive Mobile Ajax FAQ.
