Free Call Filter, thanks to S60

icon
S60.com do like to license and give away free utilities every now and then. This month, they've just put up Aglaya's Call Filter (normally $9), as the name suggests a piece of software to filter through just the calls you want, according to rules that you set up. It's compatible with all S60 3rd Edition smartphones. Grab it while you can! (you do need to 'sign in' for the link to work)

More N82 miscellany

icon

Mark Guim set up his N95 to record video at the exclusive product manager/blogger meet (and no, AAS weren't invited... sob) and he's put up a half hour video of the question and answer session (MP4 format). James Burland has shot a close-up video of the N82 being handled and in action shooting photos. I've added the N82 to my huge 'S60 History' spec comparison table. And WOM world have put up a video showing the N82's screen auto-rotation feature (when oh when will this hit the N95's firmware?)

The S60 Gold Standard

icon
PiZero is a genius, I tell you. His latest S60 theme, simply titled 'Gold' is stunning and is now standard equipment on the editorial E90 and N95. Why not give your smartphone the gilt-edge treatment, too? Oh, and if you like his themes, use the PayPal button to donate the price of a beer - I did. Party on, PiZero!

Who needs 3G anyway?

icon
Despite all the fast 3.5G devices now available, it's still a criminal waste to have to download 1MB of HTML and photos just so you can read 1K of text. Which is why I love mobile portals and transcoders. And the folks at igloo have told me about their portal, which looks very well stocked. And don't forget about two other low bandwidth solutions, Mippin and Mowser, both of which have been updated recently. Happy browsing!

The N81 gets its first firmware update

icon
The Nokia N81 has a firmware update available via Nokia Software Update in many regions today. The new version is 10.0.058 for the N81-1 and 10.0.035 for the N81-3, with improvements in WLAN performance, memory transfer and camera stability. Thanks Nokia, but please don't forget about the N93 and, dare I say it, the N95...

Opera Mini 4 now finished

icon
After one of the longest beta test programmes I can remember, Opera Mini 4 finally got finished. Head for mini.opera.com on your phone or www.operamini.com on your PC. Highly recommended. Some more details below, but essentially it's a proxy-based web browser that runs under Java but compresses content hugely and thus saves time and money.
