A couple of days ago, I was invited to spend the day at Nokia's Testing Labs at Farnborough, UK, being given a tour of the facilities and numerous demonstrations along the way. The aim was to spread the word about how rigorously Nokia test their handsets' hardware and on that front I was extremely impressed. AAS video podcast 37 is a fairly full 35 minutes of footage from the tour (taken on the N93 and N82, for those that are interested) and will let you see and hear what I saw. Enjoy.
You'll remember Tagggit from my AAS video interview with SkyHook? It's a geospatial social networking tool for S60, i.e. it uses SkyHook's databases of urban Wi-Fi hotspots to find your location without GPS and annotate places and activities for others. Tagggit is now available in open beta, so anyone can try it out. See below for lots of screenshots of Tagggit and the official launch press release. The Future of Mobile (FoM) conference is being held in London next week. Monday sees a seminar program with a great range of speakers including Matthew Millar (Adobe) on the Open Screen Project, Tom Hume (Future Platforms) on mobile platforms, and several of our favourite bloggers. The second day of the event is dedicated to a number of workshops; one of which is Symbian focused.
Here's something to read over your morning coffee. Symbian tech supremo David Wood gave the opening address at the Mobile 2.0 event in San Francisco last week, in which he pondered the role of smartphones in 2013, looked at the complexities of modern phone OS and (not unnaturally) referred to Symbian's role in how the future will pan out. It's a lengthy but good read and it's now online in full on David's blog.
Sheesh. First Rafe is all over Mobile Industry Review's video podcast and now Ewan's on camera, pontificating about the state of the Symbian world. He was caught at the London Smartphone Show, of course. Oh, and regarding his book - the main reason why it's probably not appropriate to buy it any more is that [very sadly] OPL itself doesn't run on modern devices. Unless you want to buy it anyway and help Ewan out with some royalties?....
