Nokia have just announced they are to have an N-Gage booth at Gen Con Indy 2005, the main RPG and gaming convention in North America which takes place in late August. This is particularly interesting because it ties in exactly with an earlier rumour about an unannounced game reported exclusively by All About N-Gage. Perhaps our source was right?
According to a press release by Nokia, Asphalt Urban GT 2 will have online shadowracing, one of the key things lacking from the first Asphalt game. It'll also feature music by Moby, and "images of the super sexy Las Vegas act, Pussycat Dolls", whatever that means...
Rafe gets inspired by Steve's 'Next generation' thoughts and Nokia's almost simultaneous release of Mobile Search. Here's his own version of the future.
Steve Litchfield looks at a trend that started with the Psion palmtop, continues today with cutting edge Symbian smartphones and will end with true Internet-centric devices. Read on...
Ah yes, we're goig to keep the line alive by changing the colour. A marketing trick that sometimes works and keeps things going (see Nintendo's Gameboy Pokemon editions), or points out that nothing is actually happening hardware was (see the same Pokemon edition but not through rose tinted lenses). The reaction to Nokia's announcement of a silver N-Gage is pretty typical - it's a nice thing to see but nothing has really changed. It's due out in September.
OK, so it's a slow news week (isn't everybody off at the beach?), but AllAboutSymbian is now showing up with a Google Page Rank of 7. This might not sound very impressive, but it's darned hard to achieve. (It took me 11 years to get enough content and genuine return links to get 3-Lib to PR7 and Rafe and Ewan have done it for AllAboutSymbian in around 3!) Thanks to everybody that continues to visit and recommend AAS!
Steve tries out the Nokia Wireless Keyboard (SU-8W) with the Nokia 7710 and 6630 smartphones and finds it well made but ultimately a little disappointing. Read his review.
The Nokia 6630 has been out for around six months. In his long term review, Steve Litchfield finds it an impressively versatile smartphone that you can now pick up quite cheaply.
The new game page for X-Men Legends II on N-Gage.com reveals that the superhero RPG will feature "multiplayer gaming for up to four people globally in the N-Gage Arena". The online games will be turn-based and co-operative. It's unclear if the offline mode will be realtime as in the first X-Men Legends game, or if it'll be turn-based like the multiplayer mode. X-Men Legends II for N-Gage will be out in October 2005.
It's now been a year or so since Symbian OS malware became a reality. Since then, it's largely been a non-issue for many people, despite various scare stories in the media. If you've been infected by a Series 60 'trojan', we'd love to hear from you. How you became infected, what symptoms you saw and what you did to get rid of the 'nasty'. Please email 'steve@allaboutsymbian.com' with your stories and we'll collate and report back in full.
A rumour has come our way that Nokia is doing a version of the popular pen & paper sci-fi strategy game Warhammer 40,000 for N-Gage. The rumour also claims that it will be announced at one of the Gencon gaming conventions in August and November. Just to repeat, this is only a rumour, it might not be accurate, but we thought it was worth passing on to you.
