Thoughts on the N-Gage QD Accessories

icon
Over at GearLive they're discussing the add on peripherals that Nokia announced at E3 - while we've not seen review units of these (and it appears GearLive is going on what they saw at E3) they're not convinced that the peripheral's have quite hit the mark.

Linux powered Internet Tablet - Nokia 770

icon
Nokia today announced the Nokia 770 - a Linux powerd Internet Tablet device. The device which does not include a phone or an PIM software runs on a platfrom called maemo and is based on Debian 2.8 and the user interface is derived from the GNOME UI. The device has a 4.1 inch 800 x 480 touch screen with connectivity supplied via 80211.b/g and Bluetooth 1.2. Clearly this device would be ideal for mobile use when coupled with a Symbian Bluetooth enabled phone. Expected availability is Q3 and the cost will be around $350.

Aarrghh. Just like buses!

You wait ages for a decent, card-based satellite navigation system for the Nokia 9500 (and 9300) and then all of a sudden two come along at once! Navicore Personal comes on a 256MB card and is available from June 1st (and also available in Series 60 form), while TomTom MOBILE 5 comes on a 128MB card and is supposedly already out now but will probably take until June 1st to actually get into shops. We'll contact Navicore for a review copy as soon as we can; in the meantime, I have TomTom's 9500 version of MOBILE 5 and I'll be posting a review in the next few days.

The Coming of the Sequels. Pathway 2 and X-Men 2 Announced at E3

The N-Gage game scene was looking really healthy before E3, but two new games (one announced, one merely 'on display' at the booth) have caught my eye. Pathway to Glory: Ikusa Islands takes the wartime strategy game into the Pacific Theatre, while X-Men Legends 2: Dawn of the Apocalypse sees the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse challenge Wolverine, Cyclops and the rest of the gang. Both titles are expected Q4 2005.

Now the platform news from E3 is out there, it's time to pick over the rest of the news. To keep the N-Gage range 'fresh' a number of accessories are coming from Nokia. The full list of new peripherals (including a Jabra based bluetooth headset) are after the fold, and they're expected to be available in Q3 and Q4 2005.

No trial version? Crying shame...

It's the difference between disappointment and success. It's the difference between getting your application on 1000 and 100,000 smartphones. It's the difference between getting almost no coverage in the press and getting plenty. And the difference can be bridged with only a little effort.
