Malcolm Bryant and FreEPOC present jZip, the perfect companion on your travels around the internet. With jZip on your P800, you are able to unzip attachments which have been sent to you via email or zip files which have been downloaded from the Web.
Malcolm Bryant and FreEPOC present jRC4, a small file encryption utility written in Personal Java. It will encode and decode files using the secure RC4 algorithm on your P800, PC or other compatible Java machine.
Epocware have released a new version of Handy Safe 1.1 for SE P800 with a bugfix. A serious problem has been fixed in this version and all users are advised to upgrade.
PsiLoc have made available a screen capture program for the SE P800. This program enables you to take screenshots with a keypress and allows you to save in various qualities and formats.
Peter van Sebille has released a very interesting tool for developers -ECompXL -- EPOC Compressed eXecutable Loader. This allows developers to compress their programs (thus saving space and memory) and decompress them automatically when they are run. This will be invisible to the end user.
Peter van Sebille has released version 1.0 of EMame for the Sony Ericsson P800. The EMame system is an emulation system for many legacy console systems. You can play such classics as Galaxian, Pac Man and Donkey Kong.
Malcolm Bryant and FreEPOC have updated Jabp, the free cross-platform banking application. We're delighted to report that inital testing shows it to work happily on the Sony Ericsson P800 - so that makes FreEPOC among the first companies to actually release a P800 applicaton!
The Sony Ericsson P800 has started shipping, but only in certain countries. In these countries the P800 should be available in the next couple of days. However the first deliveries are likely to go to those on waiting lists. People in countries outside the Nordic region, Italy and Hong Kong will have to wait until Januray.
Handy Safe is set to be available on the SE P800. Handy Safe is a well known application for the Nokia 7650. It seems that Epocware will be porting at least some of their Handy range of prgrams to the P800 which can only be good news for potential P800 owners.
Metrowerks have released a lower cost version of their IDE for the P800 SDK. Its called the Personal version 2.0. Its is limited to supporting only UIQ and Symbian 7. Currently this means only the P800, but may mean it will support a future Motorola device. Either way its cheaper than the professional edition retailing at $395 instead of $1395. A new version of the P800 white paper has appeared on the Mobility World of the Ericsson site. The white paper is called P800_wp_oct.pdf. Additionally it is now possible to see a preliminary userguide for the P800 on the FCC website. It is available in PDF format in two parts, part 1 here and part 2 here.
