Although the issue of fonts never bothered me, it's sure bothering Ewan. In the second part of his 'E90 out and about at the Fringe' feature, he's found that he prefers to set up application displays to work on the external QVGA screen and then worry about the internal one later.
From reliable AAS contact apocalypso comes this huge, illustrated tale of woe about the Nokia N76. No, it's not about the appalling outdoor screen contrast or music-related software bugs that I spotted in our review - this time it's the peeling chrome finish that has got him (and his girlfriend) all worked up.
Apparently, A2DP has been retrofitted to the Nokia N93i in a new firmware update. Anyone here got a unit to try out the process? Here's the link to the Updater (usual backup/sync precautions apply) (via IntoMobile) And with news that FIBA has done a deal to outfit all its reporters with N93i's, with a highlight on the Video Center application, maybe this has been added as well?
AAS's Attila Katona is perhaps the ultimate smartphone power user [shouts of "foul" from Asri, but....] and seemed the perfect person to put SmartphoneWare's new Tracker utility for S60 3rd Edition to the test. A whole new interface for your S60 smartphone or the fastest way to confuse a user? Attila seemed to like Tracker a lot - here's his review.
In which I explore the current Nokia Nseries Download! application/service in gory detail... everything you ever wanted to know about which bits are worth downloading and which err... aren't. Download! is demonstrated on the Nokia N95, but most applications are just as applicable to other recent Nseries smartphones.
Another year, another DRM solution from Microsoft. Hey ho, you'd have thought they'd have learnt by now. Anyway, Nokia has just announced that it's building support for the new 'PlayReady' technology into the S60 platform. I guess more support is always better, but if I were you I'd stick to ripping purchased CDs to WMA or AAC, with no restrictions. The full press release is below...
In another far sighted editorial, Krisse looks at TV-out gaming on the Nokia N95, seeing how well a selection of top games work on the big screen and with the aid of a Bluetooth keyboard as controller. Of course, what's really needed is a Bluetooth joystick as well...
It seems the USA gadget press is drooling over the Nokia E90 too - I'll be interested to see what they make of it in day to day use. Here's the Engadget Mobile intro and their first hands-on gallery.
The sounds you hear are S60 UI-creator Christian Lindholm having a heart attack and the thunder of the feet of Apple's lawyers. Darla's been reviewing iTheme for S60 - more than a simple theme, it's a Flash 2.0 replacement for the standby and menu screens. A cool use of Flash, but I'm not letting it near any of my devices...
"Here we go", I said to Ewan. "You're spending most of August working to cover the Edinburgh Fringe for The Podcast network. Why not see if this Nokia E90 Communicator will help you stay in touch, organised and productive, while dashing around from venue to venue?" The plan is to get a series of 'real world' E90 reviews from another Communicator veteran. Here are Ewan's first impressions.
Nokia Multimedia Transfer (previously Nokia Media Transfer) has been updated to version 1.1 Beta. The program allows you to transfer multimedia from your Apple computer to your S60 phone. Updates in this version include support for Eseries devices, preservation of meta data in mp4 transcoding and improved support for iTunes Plus tracks.
Licensed shows from the US adult comedy series 'lovebites' have appeared in Nokia's Nseries Download! application, at least on my Nokia N95. Five mini-episodes are up at the moment, for free. If you know any more about this or can confirm appearance in other handsets Download areas, please comment.
