You'll probably have spotted in the last few days that there have been reports around the 'net that Nokia's black N95 8GB monster smartphone is now fully available with USA frequency support over the pond. Andrew Leung has done an unboxing, notable mainly for the revelation that Nokia are including a voucher for 6 months free voice navigation in every box.
Programme 54 is now live, with walkthroughs of geotagging and photo sharing using a Nokia N95, Location Tagger and Share Online and some promo video of the upcoming Sony Ericsson G900. There's also a spot on Blackberry Internet Service (on a Nokia E90) and a look at getting yourself a new Windows Mobile 6 smartphone for £60(ish).
Lifted from the gritty depths of the FCC's published folders, p@sco has helpfully made the upcoming Nokia N78's User Manual more prominent. Vaibhav's been poring over it and was interested in the integrated geptagging of photos. And, if you're interested in geotagging, watch out for programme 54 of the Smartphones Show tomorrow morning...
Ewan's been at Mix08 and took the opportunity to chat to Microsoft's Brad Becker, Group Product Manager (for the User Experience Platform and Tools Marketing Group) about the recent announcement about Silverlight Mobile. He also spent a little time with the developer of WeatherBug, talking about their rapid development under Silverlight Mobile. Watch the interviews here in AAS Video podcast 28.
Thanks to all who emailed in about Mobitubia being shut out by recent changes at YouTube. The developer has now fixed the issue and Mobitubia 1.76 is now available as Build 4, with a smaller and leaner install file to boot. Recommended.
Err yes. Engadget Mobile is reporting that AT&T in the States, not content with calling the Nokia N75 by its Nseries moniker, have dreamed up the "Tab Top" name, referring presumably to the strip of icons across the top of the standby screen. What next? Suggestions on a postcard, to...
Showing that you really can't believe every stat you read without knowing the exact context, and remembering the attention some USA mobile browsing stats got when they announced that Apple iPhone browser use trumped that of any other device, I was interested to see stats from respected UK computer magazine/web site PC Pro, showing the top 5 mobile devices that had accessed their servers in 2008 so far. With Ewan somewhere in America still, Rafe recording an Insight with me and then taking a well deserved long weekend break himself, it's been an odd 24 hours, centred around the big news from Cupertino and smartphone industry reaction to it. Read on for some analysis on this and other interesting weekend reading links.
Coolgorilla, a favourite of ours since they keep insisting on giving away everything for free, has launched the London Travel Guide, a 400 page mobile-optimised online 'book', with illustrations, maps and apparently even video. The content's kept updated and there are phone and web hyperlinks throughout. Guides are planned for other major cities in the near future. Press release below the break.
You may remember the original Space Impact from phones such as the 3310, but now it's back as a full commercial game called Kappa Base. All About N-Gage puts it through its paces in the latest Next Gen N-Gage game review. Is alien zapping as fun now as it was in the 80s and 90s? Click on the link to find out.
You'd think that I'd be satisfied with the hundreds of quality S60 3rd Edition themes out there? Nope, I was on a quest, a search for my 'ultimate' theme, and I had a long wish-list. In the end, I chose to commission PiZero to create it and 'Sunrise' is the result. Happy downloading and all comments welcome!
midomi's been around for a while, but there's a whole new native S60 client for this music matching service. How well does it do on picks from the Litchfield family repertoire and is it anything more than a novelty? Find out in my review of midomi mobile...
You'll remember that we've looked at Epocware's Handy Weather before, giving both the original S60 3rd Edition version and that for UIQ 3 well deserved AAS MegaApp awards. And now they've gone and improved it again, adding weather maps and streamlining the interface. Still a MegaApp? You bet, it's still one of the stars in the Symbian OS firmament - here's my review of Handy Weather version 5.01.
No, we haven't gone raving mad - it's just that Ewan (currently on walkabout in the USA) has been tweeting from Twibble. Err... that's sending Twitter updates by SMS, in plain English. It's a useful Java application, that's for sure, saving time and bandwidth. Here's Ewan's review of Twibble.
