Review: Air Hockey Touch

icon

Air Hockey might not be the first thing you think of when someone suggests a fast paced physics-based video game running on your phone. However, that's just what you get with Air Hockey Touch. Available for S60 5th Edition and Symbian^3 on the Ovi Store, either for £3 or in an ad-supported free version. I review this game to see how well it reproduces the real world experience of playing air hockey, all apart from the whoosh of air, of course!

Review: Freecell (Offscreen Technologies)

icon

Offscreen are developers with a certain reputation for their single screen applications with very narrow functionality, but while that may have been the case at the start of their run of releases, they do deserve a second look. And while looking for some nice card games for the latest Symbian powered devices, I came across their version of Freecell. It’s still as close to a single screen application as it could be, but now there’s a menu screen and a game screen. And a lot of gameplay.

Review: Robodef

icon

It's been too long since we last had a go on a tower defence game for Symbian. So stepping up to fill the gap is Robodef from DaSuppaStudios. To those familiar with tower defence games, Robodef is a standard romp. And if you like to have a dose of Mecha in your video games then look no further. Robodef is available on the Ovi Store for S60 5th Edition and Symbian^3, there's a free trial and the full game is only £1.50. Read on to see my verdict.

Review: Sum Link XXL

icon

Sum Link XXL is one of those games that happily sits on your phone, never drawing attention to itself, with no massive 3D graphics to act as a demo, nor catchy music or presentation to make it into a “cute” experience. But it will continue to sit on my phone and called up when I need a little hit of gaming – because Sum Link has a little sprinkle of the magic ingredient every game needs – addictiveness. Here's my review!

Review: Revolve

We’ve already had the rise of the marble maze game on your mobile handset, and these will continue to flourish, but now it’s time to flip the dimension and go vertical! Or start playing Revolve, which has much the same effect. Fluid Pixel's latest title is now up for review, below.

Review: Bounce Boing Battle

icon

Time to have a look at the second of Nokia’s recent self-published game releases on the Ovi Store. After Ovi Maps Challenge targeted the single player experience, Bounce Boing Battle storms into view for a two player arcade challenge. But there's not much more to the game than the 'two players over Bluetooth' mode, and that feels like a missed opportunity to extend the Bounce franchise.

Review: Ovi Maps Challenge

icon

Is this a game or a marketing exercise? That’s the question that Rafe asked in his news posting on the release of Ovi Maps Challenge by Nokia. Personally, I think that this is clearly a game, but if you look back at the design remit, the team promoting Ovi Maps as a package may well have made an appearance. After that, though, it looks like they’ve left well alone. Let's explain why in the Ovi Maps Challenge review.

Review: AR Pirates

icon

Ewan, with beard and a full head of hair to match, seemed perfect to set sail on virtual seas and go a-plundering for the day in a new S60 5th Edition virtual reality game, AR Pirates - out on the patio. If the thought of blasting ships off Caribbean islands in err... Edinburgh seems a lot to take in, then read the review for Ewan's explanation.

Review: Snake Revolution

icon

It's Snake, but with levels, power ups and something of a complete overhaul (though staying in 2D) and it's out now in the Ovi Store, with a trial version. At which point I look through my review archives to find a suitable review - and I don't have to look any further than Mr Snake himself, Ewan Spence. Here's his full Ovi Gaming review of Snake Revolution.
