Samsung shows off D720 at CES

Samsung is showing off the D720 as part of their CES presentation. The D720 is a tri-band GSM and GPRS Series 60 phone with a 1.3 megapixel camera, support for Bluetooth, USB and IrDA. It is 101 x 51 x 24.1 in size and supports multiple media types including AAC+, Real and MP3 in stereo. More information as it emerges.

Font Styles for the Nokia 6600 and 7610

Just what some of us wanted! Now you can add different font styles to your 6600 and 7610. Thanks to Zedge who offer an excellent tutorial for the process. Please note this is an irreversible process so it is noted to back-up the phones memory to your MMC. There are 4 different font styles available. The fonts can be downloaded here

Lifeblog 1.5 is out - adds post to blog feature

Christmas has come early for Lifeblog fans with the new version 1.5 now available. It is a free upgrade for 1.0 registered users or 30 Euros for new users. The new version adds support for the 6670 and 6630, adds a few features (such as full screen item view and backup to CD or DVD), best of all is support for posting to blogs from either the phone or the PC. Currently only Six Apart's TypePad service is supported. But the posting process is based on the ATOM API and is fully documented so other blog services can add compatiability too. We will have a review of the new version shortly.

Python for Series 60 Released

Python (a scripting langauge similar to OPL in many respects, but much more widely used in the real world) is now available for Series 60. The Runtime, Example scripts and Documentation are all available from the Python Page on Forum Nokia. All About Symbian have been watching the Python project now for many months, and we'll be posting a "30 Minutes With Python" over the holidays.

New: EPCeipt for Series 60 - manage your expenses

EPCeipt proves once again that if you have a camera in your phone developers will find innovative uses for them. This time it is for keeping track of expenses. The idea is that you photograph your receipt, record a voice tag to go with it and record other information. Later you export the information into Excel on your PC, and have all your expenses plus receipts in one file ready to go off the accounting department.

SMSTray Lights Up Your PC

Wildpalm have announced SMSTray, a PC based application for Series 60 owners that allows them to use their PC to read, reply and create SMS messages through their Series 60 phones. You do need Windows XP (with SP2) and a working Bluetooth dongle, but they promise that you don't need to use any Bluetooth COM ports, or the Nokia PC Suite.

David Looks Over The 6670

A little while ago David Keppler reviewed the Nokia 6260 and said it was the best Series 60 Smartphone available at the time. Well Nokia have released a whole batch of phones powered by the Symbian Series 60 operating system, which has to put that claim into doubt, so he thought he would take a look at the newcomer to see if the new kid on the block has anything in it's arsenal to worry the older hands.
