Nokia has announced a new multimedia showcase for its Nseries smartphones, specifically the DVD quality N93: www.nokia.com/nseries/studio. Initially the movies will be made by professionals, by invitation only, but there are plans to open the gallery up to all-comers in the summer. Full press release below the break...

Blockeroo is an excellent freeware puzzle game. It is a multiplayer game played over Bluetooth. It does have a single player practise mode, but even better it also has an AI mode, which means you can play against your phone in multiplayer mode.
As just about every other mobiles site in the world seems to be cranking up the hype about Nokia's new Nseries devices being released on Tuesday, we thought we'd at least give the event a name check. Try Darla's site, for example. Rest assured, as soon as any devices are officially announced, you'll find full details here.
News here of a fixed version of the Shoutcast Internet Radio system for S60 3rd edition smartphones and also a quick version for existing S60 2nd edition devices. Cool, but watch your GPRS bills!

In an attempt to flesh out my dismissal of the need for a separate third party firewall utility for Symbian OS, I thought a little testing was in order. I grabbed the nearest S60 phone (a Nokia 6630) at random, pointed at the Internet's leading port tester/prober and sat back and watched. How did Symbian OS do? Updated: also tested Nokia 9500 over W-LAN.
Nokia's full Q1 2006 report is now out (warning, long and lots that isn't relevant here). Of note is that the Nokia N70 is estimated to be the world's top selling 3G phone and is Nokia's highest revenue-generating device, and that sales in the USA have doubled, year on year.

Forum Nokia are examining the Javascript extension, Ajax, used in many 'active' webpages to create desktop-like applications, for use in the S60 v3 browser (reports The Register). Two years ago, Nokia looked at using Python in S60. Four years before that they were part of the decision to open source OPL for S60 and S80.
Steve Litchfield adds a playable piano to Musician, a Python project of his for Series 60, and casts an objective eye over the state of this newest S60 development language. How easy is it really to get to grips with and what does the future hold?
Nokia UK has announced the Finnish giant's first online shop, for purchase of SIM-free hardware and accessories. The URL is www.nokia.co.uk/shop. This should set the cat among the pigeons among mobile phone retailers in the UK and is perhaps long overdue.
