Exclusive Nokia N92 preview

Published by Steve Litchfield at 8:35 UTC, November 29th 2005

Rafe gets a hands-on session with a prototype N92, Nokia's N series smartphone with built-in digital TV. It's a fiddly but intriguing design, with a few niggles to be fixed, but it basically works well.

Music can be copied directly to the phone thanks to the USB Mass Storage Device, but it will also be possible to synchronise from Windows Media Player. This is thanks to the licensing agreement Nokia made with Microsoft which also enables the playback of Janus DRM protected files in addition to MP3, AAC, eAAC+ and RA. This means the N92 will be able to use subscription-based music services such as Napster or Yahoo Music.
you were able to copy DRM'ed music onto the N92?
Rafe
Yes it is possible to copy / sync DRM music on. It will suport the Janus DRM used in Windows Media Audio files.

Note: I didn't actually test this myself. But this is the technology in the N91 and will be available in all XpressMusice handsets.

ah - i was actually just interested in the self test, because it would mean that the the stated cause for the N91's delay was no longer at issue.
