How to upload photos and videos to Ovi Share, Flickr and Vox from the Nokia 5800

Published by Steve Litchfield at 6:33 UTC, May 11th 2009

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is tightly integrated with a number of media-sharing sites, including Ovi Share, Flickr and Vox, and you can upload your photos and videos to these sites directly from the 5800's camera and gallery applications. In the latest (somewhat epic) tutorial in our beginners series, Tzer2 leaves no stone unturned in explaining how to get going and imparts a number of tips along the way.

Why would I want to upload my photos and videos to the internet?

"Putting your photos or videos online has many advantages:

 - They're relatively safe from physical harm (they'll still be on the site even if your phone gets lost or your computer breaks down).

 - Online photos and videos can be very easily shared with other people all around the world.

 - If you're filming or taking pictures of a public event you can use online media-sharing services to let people round the world see what the event was like.

 - You can publish photos and videos instantly, so they provide a kind of live coverage of an event. For example if you're at a concert you could take a picture, upload it and then other people could immediately see what the concert is like."

Why not add a section about PixelPipe which lets you upload directly to LOADS of other services, most importantly for me Facebook.

Hi AAS
im trying to get flickr working with share online
but unfortunately there is no flickr account to set up
in my share online. ive tried to download and install
the configuration file but it always gives an error.
can you guys allow me to know how you set up flickr
on the 5800? as its not in my share online as a default
account/service and the config. file isnt working.
Thanks
Tzer2
Unregistered, there should be Flickr support built into the 5800's firmware. There is on mine (as you can see in the article's screenshots) and I'm using a standard unlocked unbranded model.

You could try updating to the latest firmware:

If the "Over the air" method of updating doesn't get you Flickr support, try using the "Nokia Software Updater" method instead.

A very good point, but we're trying to wait until Ovi Store launches before doing stuff about third party apps. Ovi Store should make it a lot easier for beginners to obtain and install third party software.

I will add something to the article about Pixelpipe when Ovi Store has launched, even if it isn't in the store.

Pixelpipe doesn't need any 3rd party app, and besides, it's been explained in another article on AAS anyway.
