As part of the Nokia Developer Summit, the widely publicised Nokia Hackathon ended with a victory for a Mexican designer, with Rocket, a social location widget that will be featured on the front screen of the Nokia N97. It's not known which social network this is compatible with. There's an extract from the press release below.
In All About Symbian Insight 67 (AAS Podcast 127) we talk about the Nokia's Q1 results - how good/bad are they? We move on to the news that Samsung firmware updates (and a new PC Studio) are on the way, and discuss two Symbian OS topics. Well, the dates for this year's Symbian Smartphone Show have been set, as has the venue. 27-28 October, at Earls Court 2, in central London (the same venue as the 2008 event). Mark it in your diary NOW. But, curiously, the name itself hasn't been finalised yet. With the new status of the Symbian Foundation, David Wood muses on the official SF blog and asks for suggestions for the name and indeed the general themes for the event. Why not chip in?
After much delay, the most anticipated third party N-Gage game Worms World Party is out now on the N-Gage platform. The centrepiece of WWP is of course its online multiplayer mode for up to four players, and it becomes the first third party game to offer such a mode on N-Gage. To download WWP, go to your phone's N-Gage application, go to the Showroom tab, select "Options" and then "Update Now", or alternatively you can find it in the "All Games" section. The official trailer is below, you can see screenshots on AAN's WWP game page, and you can see a list of N-Gage-compatible phones on the AAN FAQ page.

Winding up his three week tour of the USA, taking in social media and gaming events, Ewan decides to take a kitchen knife to his Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. No, really. In this, the eighth of his regular video reports, embedded below, letting us know how he's getting on with S60 5th Edition and the 5800, he talks about pricing, input options, N-Gage, Lifeblog, Music player, the stylus that's easy (for him) to lose and application compatibility. If nothing else, gasp as the aforementioned knife puts the 'soft' resistive screen to the ultimate test...
Yes, Ewan's heading off for a three week tour of the USA, taking in social media and gaming events. To try and add a little Symbian spice to proceedings, we insisted he take the Nokia 5800 with him, to really try it out 'on the road'. This is the seventh of his regular video reports, embedded below, letting us know how he's getting on with S60 5th Edition and the 5800. In this part, Ewan looks at the phone's camera, from the point of view of still photos and video, finding that it really struggles indoors and in low light, plus he finds the Camera application's interface less than seamless.
In a GDC-inspired AAS podcast special, Ewan sits down with Jakko Kaidesoja (Nokia's VP of Games, Services and Software) to discuss the current status of the N-Gage ecosystem. It's a wide-ranging discussion and there's a LOT of meat in here, despite it only clocking in at 16 minutes - a must-listen for anyone remotely interested in N-Gage.
Ho yes. At SXSW last week, after talking to Ewan in our podcast, Nokia's Molly Schonthal joined Chanse Arrington and Cathy Brook to ham it up at the VIP Lounge, singing (well, more like talking) all about Comes With Music. See the video below!
The San Francisco GDC conference is starting on monday and All About N-Gage's Ewan Spence will be reporting live from the event (there have been some interesting rumours regarding N-Gage news). To follow AAN's GDC coverage, you can visit our website of course, but we also have various other online presences such as our Twitter channel and our RSS news feed. And if we have any interesting vids to show you they should end up on our YouTube channel. Also see Ewan's personal Twitter feed.
Yes, Ewan's heading off (Twitter feed here) for a three week tour of the USA, taking in social media and gaming events. This is the fifth of his regular video reports, embedded below, letting us know how he's getting on with S60 5th Edition and the 5800. Ewan talks about PIM apps (Contacts, Calendar, and so on), touching on Sync options and having a good rant about the paucity of Nokia's S60 To-do list functions.
