Looking into the Crystal ball - the future of the Nokia Communicator?

Having seen Nokia's Series 90 interface get subsumed into S60, and with Series 80 seemingly well on the way, I've been busy over at 3-Lib and present my thoughts on what the Nokia Communicator of 2007 will look like. Comments welcome on whether I'm on the ball or way off the mark!

PC Suite tweaked again, plus user-friendly intro

PC Suite has been tweaked again, for all Nokia smartphones. It's now at 6.8.22 and the changes include security and installation fixes. Bullet point changes below the break... There's also a cool and user-friendly set of Flash animations, most of which are here, to get across its purpose.

A pretty short list - Nokia 7710 freeware

Still trying to breath a little life into Series 90, the interface used in the Symbian OS-based Nokia 7710, I've compiled a directory of freeware for it. Not, err... such a long list in the end, although I'll bet there's something you might want to grab. Comments (and additions) welcome!

SmartMovie for 3rd Edition - now we're getting somewhere

The onslaught of major S60 titles ported over to Symbian OS 9 and S60 3rd Edition seems to have started in earnest. With v3.20, the much-recommended SmartMovie is now fully 3rd Edition-compatible, as well as fixing rebooting problems on Series 80 and 90 communicators.

Oops. Cost and software not included!

Forgive another pointer to my 'Calculate your perfect smartphone' Grid, but a Javascript error was spotted, meaning that neither 3rd party software not Cost was being included in the final scores. You might want to try the grid again when you've got 5 minutes to spare...

Don't Forget About Last Year's Model

While we all wait for the latest N or Eseries super phone, Steve looks back wistfully at his 7710, and discovers a handheld that's been quietly improving itself. It's still a great choice of device, with the latest firmware upgrade making it competitive with anything else on the market.

Stop it, you're making it far too easy!

Nokia's PC Suite's come a long way from its humble PsiWin and EPOC Connect ancestry. But come on, installing connectivity software's supposed to be really, really tricky, isn't it? Surely half the fun of PDAs and smartphones is spending hours despairing with your head in your hands?

Your perfect mobile device, part 263...

So I've been fiddling with the scores in my (now rather huge) Grid, plus I've added the Nokia E61. Which is the perfect mobile solution for you? For me, it came up with the Nokia N70, with i-Mate K-JAM as runner up. Interesting stuff, hopefully!

OggPlay for all

Hey, listen up! There's a whole new release (1.69) of OggPlay on the loose for all S60, Series 80 and Series 90 users. So that's basically the whole Symbian world apart from UIQ users (who are still on 1.1). S60 3rd Edition users read on...
