Backgammon Classic whiles away time but isn't fast paced or challenging

Published by at

I'm a bit of a backgammon fan and have reviewed various versions over the years. So I was interested in this new implementation by NokiaMoki - it's pretty enough but the animation is slow and the AI not challenging. Still worth £1 as a casual game, but you might like to check out the alternatives first?

Here's Backgammon Classic in action:

A pretty board, though piece animations are very s...ll...oo.....wwww..... each animates up to the central space, then moves along and finally drops into place. When your opponent has just thrown a double six, you're looking at well over 30 seconds waiting for the sprites to finish moving around!

The AI isn't wonderful - I managed to get a dominant position (above) very easily. Several times in the game, the AI had a chance to pounce upon a 'blot' of mine and missed it - more updates needed here, NokiaMoki....

Backgammon Classic is a no frills game. No sound, no menus, no settings ('Fast piece animation' would have been nice) - you just get this finish/start screen when you win or lose....

One for backgammon completists only? You can buy Backgammon Classic for £1 here in the Nokia Store.
