Python for S60 gets proper touch support - but still not a formal release

Published by Steve Litchfield at 17:07 UTC, May 26th 2009

PyS60 enthusiast Croozeus breaks the news of another landmark test release of the next-gen version of Python for S60, v1.9.5. Significantly, this includes 'listbox' support for touch-screen devices, meaning that we're one step closer to a full v2.0 release that supports all recent S60 phones (touch and non-touch).  In other related news, there's heated discussion going on about Nokia's decision not to allow Python-coded applications in the new Ovi app store.

I reckon Nokia should embrace v2.0 when it appears and start shipping it in device firmwares. Then, with security issues out the way, they could start accepting Python-written Ovi Store submissions.

The part about Nokia not allowin Python apps in Ovi Store is a bit misleadingly phrased here. What Nokia has said is that they won't initially support Python, but they want our input on the matter. So, if you want Python support, follow the link in this news item and voice your opinion there.

Speaking for the PyS60 team, our target at least is to have Python support in Ovi Store and we're working on it together with the Ovi Store people. Seems promising so far.
