Good news for climbers this morning, as Nepal Telecom announce their plans to extend mobile phone coverage to the peak of Mount Everest. Due for completion by the middle of June, climbers will be able to ditch the heavy (and expensive) satellite phones for the latest light and svelte models... assuming they can handle the temperature.
A Nepal Telecom spokesman said: "We are going to set up mobile towers in Thakdin, Manjo, Pheriche and Gorak Shep, which will bring the summit of Mount Everest within the network coverage."
We here at All About Symbian await the first Shozu posting from the summit with keen interest. I also wonder where the craziest place is that you know that doesn't have coverage yet, and is it as big a PR draw as the top of the world?
