Nokia Messaging preview for S60 5th Edition

Published by Rafe Blandford at 18:21 UTC, April 23rd 2009

Nokia Messaging, Nokia's combined email service and client, main aim is to deliver an easy to set up and use consumer email solution for Nokia's devices. A preview release for S60 5th Edition (Nokia 5800) is now available via the Nokia Beta Labs site. The S60 5th Edition version is optimised for finger touch and includes, optionally, the 'push' element of the Nokia Messaging service.

Nokia Messaging   Nokia Messaging set up

Nokia Messaging offers a significantly enhanced email offering over the standard S60 5th Edition implementation in the Messaging application. The email client has been optimised for finger touch usage, including contextual 'tap and hold' functionality, support for landscape and portrait views and more. We'll take a more detailed look at Nokia Messaging on S605th Edition in due course.

Here's the Beta Labs video, which explains some of the highlights of the Nokia Messaging on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic:

The full release of Nokia messaging for S60 5th Edition is due in May. As such the current version should be considered a beta / preview release. The installation process has not yet been finalised or streamlined (you'll need to follow the instructions carefully).

Although the feature set will not change between now and the first formal release, the Nokia Messaging team are looking for feedback to help identify bugs and other problems. Moreover they are planning future version and welcome feedback on what you would like to see in the future.

predicaments
Yet again Nokia's messaging App version here is a total disaster. I own several email accounts that are hosted in USA with companies such as www.pair.com. Unfortunately Nokia's email application cannot find this firm and as such makes it impossible to configure the application to read my mail.

This problem also exists with Nokia's PUSH email system - it's totally insane and shows a complete lack of maturity in software development. I'm still shocked at how stupid Nokia are here.

SEVEN however provide a far better solution that realises that you may need to add manual settings to establish an email account.

Frustrating.
