The full version, 1.0, of the S60 5th Edition SDK is now available for download from Forum Nokia (previously available was version 0.9). Changes include support for keypad-off display in the emulator, support for additional languages, a start-up progress indicator for the emulator and fixes for a number issues and deficiencies. A number of new plug-ins are also now available for the SDK.

The SDK enables application development using Symbian C++, Standard C/C++ (Open C/C++), Java (JME), Web Runtime (WRT) and Python (via a plug-in) for devices based on the S60 Platform. It is based on Symbian OS release 9.4 and includes documentation, API reference, emulator and associated development tools, but does not include an IDE.

Supported IDEs include Carbide.C++ (all editions) for C++ developments and NetBeans IDE 6.0, 6.1 and 6.5 or Eclipse 3.3.1 with EclipseME 1.7.7 and MTJ for Java development. Carbide.C++, which is available in several additions is available as a free download from the Forum Nokia website.

For more information visit the Tools section of the Forum Nokia website.

It is worth noting that it is this platform and SDK which will form the basis for the vast majority of the first release of the Symbian Foundation Platform, which is due to be released in the second quarter of this year.
