WIP's Mobile Jam in Barcelona

Published by at

Wireless Industry Partnership (WIP), a networking organistion for developers and developer organisations, is a holding another of its Mobile Jam sessions in Barcelona on the last day of the Mobile World Congress. The event allows developer to get together with their peers and talk about issues impacting the mobile industry and mobile development.

The event opens with an 'Unpanel' on 'Survival Strategies for Mobile Developers' which sees representatives from Sony Ericsson, Micorosft, i-Source, Symbian Foundation, and O2 talk about making the best business decision in tough economic times.

The main part of the Mobile Jam event are discussion groups around a number of topics. In these groups everyone is encouraged to put forward their ideas and talk about their experiences. A unique aspect of past Mobile Jams has been its cross-industry participation. In a discussion group you're likely to see competitors side by side talking about their experiences and offering valuable insight to how they see the market. It is an opportunity learn about new issues, strategies and techniques, but also make valuable contacts with fellow developers and representatives from the big mobile companies.

As described by the WIP website:

"Jam Sessions are interactive and definitely not boring.  We mean it when we say No PPT, No Panels and No Ties!  WIP Jam sessions are a unique format for mobile and wireless developers, where we blend ‘unpanels’, with intimate discussion groups led by industry leaders and developers alike.  And it’s really very interactive - we make sure everyone gets a chance to be heard."

For Mobile Jam Barcelona the discussion groups are divided into six broad areas: testing, platforms, content, money, APIs, and emerging markets.

I've been fortunate to attend a few of the earlier Mobile Jam sessions and, if you are a developer attending Mobile World Congress, I defintely recommend that you check out the Mobile Jam sessions. You can sign up on WIP Mobile Jam website.
