Google Maps for Mobile adds business directions

Published by Steve Litchfield at 9:57 UTC, January 8th 2009

Ooh, you all know how much I love Google Maps for Mobile (e.g. for S60, but also for other platforms). It just got itself a 'server-side' upgrade, adding in full directions support for local businesses. You don't need to update your software, just search for a business name (e.g. "Computer Training" or "La Fontana" [a local restaurant]) in 'Get directions'. Some screens below, plus link.

Some shots of Google Maps for Mobile 2.3 in action, searching for directions to businesses:

You can get Google Maps for Mobile 2.3 on your S60 phone by going to m.google.com in Web.

Well routing doesn't work in Mumbai :-( , but then it never did.

The search is very accurate - I searched for Pizza Hut and it showed me correct results in the exact order of distance from my current location. But it is not able to chart out a route, that's all ("routing is not available in your region").

Thanks, it's great that you're here to tell us these things.

It's a bit like that Harry Enfield character who kept saying "I couldn't help noticing that I'm considerably richer than you." in a brummie accent.

Hi slitchfield,

Thanks for the information.

I just have joined this forum and I get to know about new things which I didn't know.
