All About Symbian Wins Best Mobile Blog 2008
Published by Ewan Spence at 10:50 UTC, October 13th 2008
Mobile Industry Review have just announced the winners of their 2008 Awards, and in the incredibly competitive Best Mobile Blogger category, the All About Symbian team have come out as winners. While Rafe, Steve and myself were named in the show, we couldn't have managed it without all our other contributors and readers throughout the year. This one really is for you all.
Ben Smith, on awarding the prize, summed up the judges thoughts rather succinctly: "[All About Symbian is] always interesting to read, always factually accurate, always the most complete coverage of any Symbian related blog on the internet. Congratulations guys, we absolutely love it, we love the podcast, keep on producing great content, we're looking forward to next year."
Rafe Blandford, speaking on behalf of the whole team, offered thanks to the team at Mobile Industry Review. "It is a pleasure to receive an award from our friends at Mobile Industry Review, to be recognised by fellow mobile bloggers is a special honour. All About Symbian is a team effort so a big thank you to all the contributors to the site - and that includes our all important readers. I'd also like to thank the Mobile Industry Review team and I know we'll be looking forward to them continuing their track record of excellence in the next year!"
With 17 awards in the show, ranging from Best Gadget and Mobile Handset, to the Mobile Industry Villain of the year the twenty minute video podcast might be just the thing for you over your afternoon coffee.
Mainly because AAS sources its own information, and waits until things are verified before posting them up.

Absolutely. I was just going to say the same thing. To be named as winners over sites likes the Boy Genius Report, even though we stay away from hit-attracting leaks, is something of a validation of our 'keep it legal and official' policy 8-)
FYI and all that.. and congrats guys - well deserved!
:)
(and totally unanimous btw too)

Congrats!

Yes, but on the other hand, this very sterile approach also lends to the site appearing to be too close to the source(in Nokia's back pocket) with many articles. As a result, aas often times comes across as a p.r. site, due to lack of constructive critical thinking(toward Nokia), and strictly playing by the establishment's rules, imo.
Btw, congrats on the award. ;)

fully and wholly deserved.
you're the blog that made me start blogging and now i work for Nokia.
i'm disappointed i can't be the voice i once was due to NDA's, but i just want to say that i read the site every day and share it with my colleagues quite often.

can't wait to hang out at the Symbian Show!

Nice work lads. Echoing some of the others here, AAS was the first phone blog that I came across all those years ago. Congratulations on the award!

"lack of constructive critical thinking" - ?? There are more constructive how tos and forward looking pieces on this site than on any other. And look closely and you'll see a lot of critical original commentary too.... we're not blinkered fan boys.

Could you give an example of such a criticism-free article?
You say its happened often so there must be lots of such articles in the AAS archives, but I'm having trouble finding any.
Waiting for something to be confirmed isn't playing by the establishment's rules, it's sticking to a good principle of journalism. If you can't confirm something then you have no idea if it's true, which is pretty much the level that most tabloid gossip columnists operate at (hence their tendency to print lots of false information). Confirmation doesn't have to come from the story's subject, but it has to come from somewhere with a reliable track record.

I agree to a point but posting details of possible future phones (with good evidence) is not tabloid journalism.

Official yes, not sure other site's breaking news are acting illegally...

Btw, congrats on the award. ;)
Flash comparisions, the best camera phone comparisions, detailed reviews of the latest (final model with production firmware!) phones, how to do so such and such, reviews of third party software, what exactly is missing?
seboka
Congrats on the title! :)

You guys definitly deserve it.
Congrats.
One suggestion.
You are AllAboutSymbian.the best blog on the web.You guys should have exclusive stuff from nokia.for example extra images of ngage games_new Nseries_110% specs of every phone (cause we all know that nokia forum doesn't give all the infos
).
Dynite

What's Going On Here? This is suspicious? It is actually SMS Text News award not the Mobile Industry Review Show award and it is pointless almost ridiculous or maybe I am wrong, :/

Mobile Industry Review is the new name for SMS Text News. Obviously everyone's welcome to disagree with our opinions, but the team wanted to acknowledge how great we thought all the nominees were - particularly AAS which we wanted to highlight as the winner. Rafe and the team have had higher accolades from people much loftier than us, but we wanted to add our voices, representing our readership.

Oh. Ok. And your points is? It is pretty boring to read so called "inner circle guys reviews" about their own site. I like AAS very much indeed, but like I said, I am bored with this nepotism. :)

Blah, there are bunch of better blogs out there, you are guys slowly loosing your position of the leading Symbian portal, blog from guru or freak are much better although guru now works for nokia and isn't as reliable as once was! I don't mean to sound rude but you are a little late on news. I hope that you are smart enough to accept my constructive critic and to take your position back because new kids on the block are very serious and very perspective and very fast with posting news about the latest happenings and events!
