Published by Steve Litchfield at 7:16 UTC, September 18th 2008

Nokia's Share on Ovi team has been busy and there's a whole new Share home page ("simpler, less cluttered, easier to navigate"), plus an upgrade to the back end to deliver higher quality mobile video, for when viewing Share-hosted videos out and about. See below for the Share team's announcement.

Here's an example of the new video. The player controls have been tweaked, but more significantly videos start playing back more quickly and are of a higher quality.

Here is an extract from the Share on Ovi Blog:

Making Share more personal

Share on Ovi has always been about sharing pictures and videos with your friends, family, or the world.  Now we’ve made some changes to Share to make it an even more personal experience - connecting you with your media and the latest additions from your contacts right off the bat.  The new home page is simpler, less cluttered, and easier to navigate – and it gets you to what you care about the most right away.

Making Share simple to use

Creating channels to organize and share your media just got a lot simpler, and our upload page is now a lot easier to use.  All of the power and detail is still there if you want it, but it’s now much more straight forward to just name a new channel, set it to public or private, and get your media into it quickly so that you can share it with your world.

Better, faster, and more reliable video

We’ve changed the way we handle videos so that they get posted faster and look even better than before.  The new m4v format that we’re using for mobile video is a big step up in quality, and our new transcoding technology can handle even more file types so that most videos can be played back in the browser window.

Not only does this improve your new videos, but we’re going to go back to the beginning and upgrade all of the videos that have ever been posted. It may take us a few days, but we’ll get them all.

Looks good to me. Original post.

Old news, been like that for almost a week.

This site really is turning into a yawnfest.

Why do you keep coming up back each day then?

The announcement was yesterday (which is actually today by European time), and there's no possible way you could have known about the improvements in video coding just from looking at the site layout.

Try actually reading something before declaring it old news.

Unregistered: that's a little harsh. This site's always been Nokia/Symbian biased. Can't expect them to be subjective, can we? No matter what crap Nokia puts out. This is their site and they have the right to do what they want.

The proportion of insulting comments is much higher from 'unregistered' people. Why not only allow comments from people who take the trouble to register?

Fair play to Mac Boy, at least he owned up for who he was and he used to provide us with a good laugh.

Correct if am wrong "i wish am wrong"
Only Nseries phones cant use the Share Online application and upload photos from the phone directly...My N73 can do it but my E90 cant...this is a serious problem restrict the success of the service.
