Secret really is.... revealed [update]
Published by Steve Litchfield at 6:47 UTC, July 30th 2008
Hmm.... Nokia has put a new mini-app, 'Secret' in the Download! 'What's Hot' folder for many handsets. On running it, you have to enter a four digit code from the Flash web site www.openatownrisk.com, then [update] type the same code in again on the web app, finally revealing an abstractly wierd video clip, featuring fishing midgets, motorcycling lobsters, table-tennis-playing grandads, spaghetti divers and... well, you get the idea. And the chance to win a limited edition T-Shirt (see below). Er.... Nokia? What's this all about? Is there any point to this other than keeping Flash animators in employment? (Thanks to kflyer for initial report)

I opened the website steve. There is a scanned letter!!!how are we supposed to guess the code. just out of the blue or what??

Well, the source code says in the meta description:
"
Hundreds of years ago, scientists, artists and members of Royal families gathered to produce a clip of grand weirdness. A clip stranger and more amazing than anything that had ever been made before. But the clip turned out too weird! People went mad from seeing it and it was too much for the common man to handle. Thus the clip was locked away, in a mysterious box with four seals. The knowledge of how to break the seals has been passed down from one generation to another, hidden within the technological masterpieces of history. Edison’s light bulb, the Wright Brothers’ airplane and Apollo 11 all held the secret of unlocking the box. A secret that can now be found within Nokia Download service, allowing the public – you, to find the key to break the seals. And see...the weirdest clip. Ever made..."
Hmm.

So...will this cause me to have an acid flashback

Hi!
Well, as from the text within the sourcecode of openatownrisk.com I would think the code is refering to the a new nokia phone, as next technology masterpiece. So what do rumours say? What is the name of the next anticipated device?
(On the other hand this would possibly mean, that the clip is only a teaser for that device - doesn't it?)

Has anyone tried with the model# of a new phone? 5800, anyone? Secret doesn't show up in my Download!, so I can't try it.
bartmanekul
Anyone tried 8285?
slitchfield
nope, neither of those two work....

...to unlock the original game on the openatownrisk.com you needed to change the (fruit machine style) dials to be all the same icons.... simple concept!
..has anyone tried the code 1111 (all events in meta data were 1sts, plus it was Apollo11)
...I cannot get the app from my Download folder for some reason?

I cant help but feel theres something in the letter thats supposed to give it away.
And its just the letter on google cached as well. Damn.

has anyone tried those 4 numbers "accidentally" hanging out of some of the thick black lines?
evilweasel
...eh...the web sites changed...I'm now listening to whale music and being asked about the ring tone in the secret folder in download (which I STILL can't get lol)
bartmanekul
Ehhh, its odd.
bartmanekul
Ok.
Theres 4 locks. One you have to simply use the code, thats easy.
Another you need a webcam for, which needs to look at the wallpaper in the download (although, my tshirt seemed to do the job).
Another needs a mic to listen to the ringtone you can get, although someone else has this working, it either doesnt detect my mic or ignores it.
But no-one can seem to get hold of the video, its not in download.

I did some searches on other sites. The website address was around some time ago with a counter for a launch on 7th July, when nothing happened. Soon after the launch date the letter was put onto the site, and trail went dead.
Today it's showing in downloads with a code, we need someone who can work out the crypt on it. I haven't got the smarts for this, and random checks probably are too hard. Any ideas?

Can anyone open this URL flash? My browser is getting stuck at 25%.
http://www.openatownrisk.com/index.html
Perhaps that's the idea, until I give it the image, tone, code etc?
It doesn't detect the sound from my PC either
N/A
Works for me (WinXP SP2 with FF3).
slitchfield
Tip: don't bother with the mike and webcam bits, just click on the right arrow to advance to the silly video.... 8-)

Imo its obviously a boost to try and get people looking at 'download!' on their phones.
But its the same sad story as Ngage, but worse.
They should have done this after a revamp, the stuff on download! is still, quite frankly, crap.
Its like a very badly done advert (the video still isnt on download!) which is advertising how bad nokias apps service in comparision to Apple's effort.
Shooting themselves in the foot really.

...baaaaaar..gone back to the 'letter page' again...j

Doesn't seem to be in my Download! application (N95 unbranded firmware, UK). I've tried refreshing the lists in all the sub-categories.
