Last.FM Streaming to S60 at Vodafone Betavine

Published by at

Anathema, over on the Vodafone Betavine site, has a bare bones Last.FM client for S60 devices. Rather than let Last.FM know which tracks you have played on your phone (so that Last.FM can use these to build up a profile of what you like), blastfm allows you to stream music from Last.FM, including a stream of music that Last.FM thinks you will like. I’ve been waiting for the ability to do this on my phone for some time.

It’s not the most elegant of solutions, and is seriously beta. You need to ensure it is installed on your memory card; you’ll need python present’ and another Internet Radio application will also be placed on your smartphone; but it does work.

As a proof of concept, blastfm delivers. Hopefully there’ll be enough interest that the developer wants to keep going. Failing that, there’s no reason why Last.FM themselves shouldn’t consider picking up the application themselves.
