BBC's mobile web site, much loved by all, has had a big facelift, with plusher micro-graphics by default and a more modern design, driven by the fact that the Beeb recognised that data costs had come down a lot and that they didn't have to be quite so minimalist anymore. On your smartphone, it's enough to go to www.bbc.co.uk - the mobile site is automatically served up. The old minimalist design is also available if you want it (click on 'Preferences' at the bottom of the home page). And for the first time, you can set the full desktop version as your home page, which should please Nokia E90 users.

The video bits come down as 3GP, by the way, and should work on any mobile. As you drill down into the site, the formatting starts to become plainer and more familiar:
