Cracknell rows, cycles and swims guided by an N82

Published by Rafe Blandford at 15:38 GMT, March 4th 2008

James Cracknell, a double Olympic gold medalist, is rowing, cycling and swimming the 1,431 miles between the UK and Africa in a 'Cross-Continent Challenge' as part of the Sports Relief fundraising efforts. He's being guided by a Nokia N82 which he's also using to listen to music and send picture messages to his website.

We hope the support team packed a few spare batteries or has a battery extender because we're not sure the N82's battery is going to last the distance (about 10 days), especially as James is getting by on about 6 hours of sleep per night.

You can donate to Sports Relief through the website here.

Making things a bit difficult for himself isn't he? I know the straits of Gibraltar aren't very wide but they have got some nasty currents. Having one air out the water all the time (holding the N82) is going to be tricky...

And listening to Razorlight and Maroon 5 as well. It's obviously a suicide mission!

Does he have the N82 in a case or what?
