SS53 live... and a teaser for more video here

Published by Steve Litchfield at 10:57 GMT, February 22nd 2008

I forgot to mention that Smartphones Show 53 went live a couple of days ago, with some nice video footage of the Nokia and Sony Ericsson S60 and UIQ 3 hardware launches, shot by Rafe, plus comments from me, iPhone tips and a look at how far the Nokia E90 has taken me since my Psion-toting days, ten years ago. Rafe's Mobile World Congress video clips will feature in their entirety in exclusive AllAboutSymbian video podcasts in the next few weeks, so stick around.

As before, it's now back to being encoded in H.263 MP4 (in addition to YouTube), meaning that the show is watchable on any smartphone made in the last 4 years 8-)

Still not sure about this new format including the iphone, heaven know we get saturation point coverage on it already, even with its comparatively low install rate.

Would have preferred something more relevant to the community like N95 tips, N93i tips and such. Maybe something about how to use one of these cool new freeware apps, you know lil tips for users of UIQ and S60 handsets.....like that video making tutorial for the N95 you did a while ago.

Don't take offense, i'm just thinking out loud. Its your show and i've enjoyed it since day one. You do what you think is right.

btw... once again the E90 is out. I like how you finally moved on from the PSION, and those coal trains in your neck of the woods are really cool.

The thinking was that, with the gradual demise of Windows Mobile (in terms of consumer sales/awareness), I needed to broaden the show slightly, lest it become 100% Symbian. Which the sponsors would have loved, but which wouldn't be fair to the market place.

So I opted to get in some outside help, to do alternate iPhone and Blackberry slots. With the proviso that neither take up more than 2 mins of a show that they're in.

I think it's a fair balance. iPhone and Blackberry are both now smartphone platforms etc.

The iPhones tips are a real giggle :) MMS is a basic feature even in £50 PAYG phones! The iPhone really is form over function - in a big big way :)

Thats all fair enough, i just fast forward through those parts anyway.

I just tried viewing SS53 on my N95 8GB with V15 firmware in the Web app,and it works fantastic, able to stream the raw youtube file...really impressed...though I had to move closer to my home access point for it to work properly...nice one Nokia...:icon14:

Oi jah, those iPhone tips actually take ages to film. Take them a bit more seriously! ;)

MMS? Does anyone actually still use it?

Yes, MMS numbers seem to be growing. It's taken 5 years, but people are starting to send picture messages at last, at least that's my observation watching my family and friends.
