Pownce Goes Mobile, Avoids .mobi Domain

Published by at

A quick heads up (via SMSTextNews ) that Pownce, the social network and micro-blogging site, now has a mobile version http://mobile.pownce.com/ While eschewing the m.[sitename].com format so favoured by mobile Twitter, Jaiku and Facebook, it’s yet another major Web 2.0 site that’s ensuring people on the move can still get to their info.
I’m sure part of this is because all the developers are based in San Francisco and the Valley, and therefore have to be able to get their info-dumps on their US based iPhones as fast as possible, but the open standards of the web means much greater benefits are open to all of us. If you’re doing a website, I sure hope that you’ve factored building in an m. version.

I’m also intrigued by the fact that none of the sites mentioned above have picked up .mobi domains. I guss that’s yet another white elephant we knew was in the room.
