Hi Steve,

What do you know... the N95 8GB has hardly been out weeks or so, and we see a Firmware update.
While those of us who have an N95-1 just sitting on the shelf in front of them doing nothing because of the damn keypress bug so bad it makes it unusable, are still waiting after nearly FOUR MONTHS, for a fix, because Nokia keep putting back and putting back the firmware, to add in (we hope) more and more new stuff a la 8GB model).
Thanks Nokia. You could at least have released an interim fix for the keypress bug alone in the meantime.

I think this is more of an emergency bug fix update for the 8GB model, by the way, that's why it's come out so quickly. The N95 update can't be far away, surely?
Update went smoothly (105MB), restore worked fine. Apps OK, many settings voided though (access points etc), many 3rd party themes come up as 'corrupted' now, curiously.
More later, when I get time to play with it after a dose of real life intrusion(!)

The N95-1 v20 fw is supposed to include flash lite 3. Does this one for the N95 8gb also have it?

Hi Steve, Was the phone memory wiped during the upgrade?

Does the new firmware changes the orientation of the screen saver back to portrait?

I have a N95 8GB from USA, but NSU wont give any new updates available.... What product code do you have?

When the N95-1 came out it too was followed quite quickly with an upgrade.
Patience young grass-hopper :)
I too hate the annoying button bug, but I'd rather wait a little longer and get a full on upgrade including all the nice new features than go through to upgrades and all the hassle of recovering X, Y and Z on my phone each time.

Hi Steve. Could you install the NsysInfo and tell us what is the real clock rate of the N95 8GB processor?
velimir
Thanks a lot! I guess they are uploading more... Even for EURO1 it still isn't listed as avaliable on Nokia site.
Kind regards,

Does your PC recognise the phone when it is turned on and connected?
Try removing and replacing the battery with the power cord out then replace the pwer cord, connecct the USB cable and power the phone on again. Then try and run the updater again. keep trying until it goes through OK.

i tried it actually but no luck. :(

Did you have an operator branded one and you've now changed the product code?
I did that with my N95-1 and when I restored my settings to it I thought I'd bricked it. Run the flash again if you can but don't restore your settings and see if that helps.

This usually brings it back to life
Turn phone off, press and hold the green (talk) key on the left + number 3 on the keypad + the * key and then turn the phone back on.

Some answers:
Product code of my unit is 0549487.
Half my apps disappeared after the restore, half stayed. Wierd. Most themes don't now work 8-(
Screen saver's still landscape - apparently this is by design!
No sign of Flash Lite 3 or YouTube playing etc. This seems to be a bug fix firmware, mainly for Web (which did crash quite a bit on v10 firmware)

Strangely I never had a single web crash on the v10 firmware.
Never bother with a restore myself, prefer to reinstall apps and sync my contacts etc. Seem to have less problems that way and it gets rid of all the crap from uninstalled apps.

Just de-branded my N95 8GB with this update so just the job for me :)

I have just had my VF one unlocked.
Wanted to debrand using the product code mentioned.
Does it erase Spiderman 3? I haven't seen it yet.
I could do a back up but restoring seems to screw up firmware upgrades on S60.
Ratkat
Yes it will delete the Spiderman 3 key (the movie will still be there but unwatchable) unless you do a restore
So if you are unbranding then watch it first, don't restore a branded backup to a unbranded firmware
slitchfield
Restoring works fine on this update, I reasoned that the fixes were to Web, Maps, mainly and that Nokia were unlikely to have changed the format of system files etc.
The upcoming update for the N95 will be a good example of when NOT to *just* backup and restore, as I suspect that an awful lot of system files will have changed in subtle ways....
