During their keynote today at the Symbian Smartphone Show, Samsung Electronics announced two new phones (the GPS enabled i550 and i560), to sit alongside three other phones. All five S60 3rd Edition phones will be available before the end of the year.
The Samsung i550 is a candy bar styled phone equipped with GPS. Running S60 3rd Edition, with Feature Pack 1, a 3.2 megapixel camera and 150MB of internal memory, it’s a strong feature set and compares nicely to the high end Nokia S60 devices, and the in built 128MB of RAM should mean that it runs pretty smoothly.
The Samsung i560 is geared towards the oft-targeted fashion conscious smart phone user. A slider design phone, with similar specs to the i550, the device is Samsung’s answer to the high-end devices such as the N95 and the iPhone; and they hope that the bloggers, influencers and early adopters will pick up the device. That’s a tough ask, but Samsung have a strong position in the mid-range market with the UK networks, so they could be best placed to get the device into a lot of subscribers hands over Christmas.
