Smartphone spotting - It's always worth a stroll down the High Street

Maybe AAS should launch 'The Observers Book of Smartphones'? Anyway, it's always worth a glance in all the phone shops in your local town. In this case (photos below), I spotted Vodafone heavily promoting their new data tariffs and the first appearance of the Motorola Z8 to the masses.

Leaving aside the fact that most of us have been happily using the Internet 'mobile' for years, it's still good to see Vodafone banging the gong, tying in with its new much cheaper data tariffs. I'd question the use of YouTube to get people hooked though. Don't they know that the only YouTube available (m.youtube.com), even on smartphones, is a horribly emasculated version of the real thing? Guaranteed disappointment all round....

Vodafone's pushThe Z8 is here

Also spotted was the first appearance of the UIQ 3-powered Motorola Z8. In some ways rivalling the Nokia N95 in terms of multimedia, Rafe's now got one of these as well and a full review will be here shortly. Anyway, credit to Motorola for getting it to public availability relatively quickly.
