locr - geotagging for S60 phones

Published by Rafe Blandford at 12:29 BST, May 29th 2007

locr is a photo hosting service with a geographical tilt. It encourages its users to geotag (encode location information) into their photos. Last week locr announced the availability of an S60 client which allows you to geotag photos on your phone (S60 2nd and 3rd Edition). We'll be covering geotagging in more detail later this week.

Once geotagged and uploaded to the locr website you can view your photos in their geographic context along with photos from other locr users.

Photos can be geotagged manually (functionality currently buggy) or you can opt to take a photo with locr in which case the location information will automatically be embedded. The application can use either the internal GPS (N95, 6110, E90) or a Bluetooth GPS.

They claim to embed the location in the picture, and yes that is what this software does.
But it is still useless because the location is embedded as a comment in the comment field of the jpeg.
It should have been added into the EXIF fields spesifically made for this purpose.
The way it is done, it seems to only be useful if you display the images on locr's pages.

So, I'm still waiting for an app that corretly embeds the location into the EXIF.
