SymRAD for UIQ 3 and S60 3rd Edition

Published by Rafe Blandford at 10:49 GMT, March 20th 2007

Simon Judge has announced the availability of an alpha release of SymRAD a free rapid application development tool for developing user interface (UI) based applications for Nokia S60 3rd Edition and UIQ 3.x. Applications are created via an XML definition file which includes screen definitions and Javascript.

SymRAD is aimed at hobbyist programmers and other developers looking for a way to quickly prototype applications. More information and some example scripts are available of the SymRAD Wiki.

There is a great deal of debate around the difficulties of developing for Symbian OS devices. SymRAD offers one possible solution for easing prototype or simple development. Whatever the cases rapid application development tools have a definite role to play. SymRAD shoudl enable anyone with a technical interest to construct a basic application.

Simon is looking for feedback on the development tool. He is also looking for funding to help him spend more time developing this tool, it would be great to seem some of the established Symbian ecosystem players help with this.
