Nokia Mobile Search adds ability to search for content stored on your device
February 08, 2007

Espoo, Finland - Nokia today announced that its Mobile Search application is now able to search for content stored on your device, ranging from emails, text messages and calendar entries to videos and music files. Just like with desktop search applications on a PC, Nokia Mobile Search indexes the information stored on your compatible Nokia device and then lets you search to find what you want, when you want it.

"Nokia Mobile Search has proven to be a hit with people who want access to information and services at their fingertips and now we're bringing that same ease of use to search for content you already have on your Nokia device," said Ralph Eric Kunz, vice president, Multimedia Experiences, Nokia. "Whether you are trying to find a calendar entry, find the SMS your friend sent days ago, or track down a multimedia file you downloaded, Nokia Mobile Search is the easiest way to find what you are looking for on your device."

Working with over 20 partners from around the world and available in over 40 languages, Nokia Mobile Search is a simple, convenient, and fast way to find and connect to content you want - whether on the Internet through local service providers or search engines or already stored in yourcompatible device - directly from your Nokia device.

Nokia Mobile Search with My Content search supports the Nokia N95, Nokia N93i, Nokia N93, Nokia N92, Nokia N91, Nokia N91 8GB, Nokia N80 Internet Edition, Nokia N80, Nokia N76, Nokia N73 Music Edition, Nokia N71, Nokia E70, Nokia E62, Nokia E61, Nokia E60 and Nokia 3250 devices and available as a free download for compatible Nokia devices from http://www.nokia.com/mobilesearch.

Hmm..... despite this press release being up, the version I just downloaded seems to be the old 'online only' version. I suspect they'll update it imminently. Please post if you spot the changeover....

No Local search for me either... :(

I confirm that the version 2.21 is the old one and does not include "local" search.
The PR seems to have been sent to fast.

@Teo:

That's not the same app. The Local Search is as I understand it supposed to search for services/stores/restaurants in the area one is currently positioned.. :)

Exactly - different apps, same name. The PR suggests they've now been implemented but the result hasn't appeared yet. Maybe even Nokia are confused!!! 8-) Sigh....

Downloaded, installed, but the application doesn't start on my E62. Or rather it is as if it does and then immediately exists. Essentially, I just see the screen flashing.

Same problem with my N80. It fails to start. The download page says the app is 1.5Mb but the downloaded one is only around 550kb.

Ditto on my E61. The app starts to launch and then quits. I tried it on the card and on the phone.

Hi all,
I have tried both a long time ago the Mobile search app lasted a couple minutes before being taken off my device. Whilst the local device search is excellent and still on my device personally i think they should remain separate as although both search they accomplish different things and one i need and use and the other i didn't.

I also tried this new version, seems it doesn't like using wlan access points as it just hangs on the start screen. I had to remove & reinstall before i could choose a 3G / GPRS access point and then it worked fine.

Like others i found no option for a device search either. Luckily i have the other search app too, at least the icons are obvious to minimise app confusion.

I have to say that I'm a little disappointed... Local search is a fantastic tool to search PIM content, messages or local files but it has one BIG problem. It doesn't find anything from Mail for Exchange inbox and email messages are the thing I would need search most!! Could you fix this soon Nokia?!
