Nokia N93 Golf Edition

Nokia have announced the availability of the Nokia N93 Golf Edition. In addition to usual N93 offering the special edition includes the Pro Session Golf application, and golf instruction CD. The Pro Session Golf application allows you to capture your golf swing using a golf specific video capture mode. The captured swing can then be compared with others using a split screen, played back frame by frame and analyzed with easy to use drawing tools.

The application also includes the ability to send and receive swings, drills and lessons from friends or coaches.

The video capture mode works by lining up the person being captured with an on screen silhouette to allow for easy comparison. Swings are being analyzed both front the side and the back / front. 

Pro Session Golf is currently exclusively available on the N93 Golf Edition, but will be made available for other select S60 phones in due course.

Available online from today at www.nokia.com/N93golf in 15 countries across Europe,,the Nokia N93 Golf Edition will also go on sale through local distributors such as selected golf clubs and regular Nokia Nseries retail channels. The Nokia N93 Golf Edition includes a Nokia N93 multimedia computer, the Pro Session Golf by Nokia application, a 1GB miniSD memory card, a golf instruction DVD as well as a Get Started guide.

Creating a niche specific product is an interesting exercise. While clearly related to Nokia's sponsorship of the Golf it does demonstrate the possibiliy to use software to tailor device to a specific niche. With S60 this is much easier to do than with other phones and this sort of customisation is something we are likely to see more often at both at the manufacturer level, but also the operator level (continuing the trend of operation service customisation).
