Published by Rafe Blandford at 19:36 UTC, June 27th 2006

Wayfinder is now availale for S60 3rd Edition devices. Wayfinder is a GPS navigation and mapping solution for mobile phones. In contrast to other navigation system Wayfinder downloads mapping data and routing information over the air. This means Wayfinder requires far less installation space and maps are often more up to date. However a 3G, WiFi or GPRS connection is required to download data. A free 5 day trial is available from the Wayfinder web site.

Wayfinder provides driving directions via on screen instructions, on screen maps displays and via voice prompts. The program connects with a Bluetooth GPS to show current your current position and provide instructions at the appropriate moment. Traffic information, in select countries, can be accessed from the program, although after an intial one month trial there is a charge for this additional service.

Wayfinder has over 3 million points of interests. These includes (in some countries) traffic cameras, toll roads, petrol stations, accommodation and tourist attractions. Wayfinder comes in two intial versions: continent wide (Europe or North America) or region specific (groups of countries such United Kingdom and Ireland). These cost €149 and €99 respectively for lifetime subscriptions. Additional continents or regions can be added to existing subscriptions at a future date. One of the plus points of Wayfinder is that it is easy to switch to a new device using the MyWayfinder.com web site.
