New QML Store beta adds new features, new compatibility

Published by at

Hot off the press today is a new beta of Nokia's next-gen QML-written Store application, grab it now for Symbian^3/Anna/Belle phones. New for v3.20.044 is support for the Nokia E6's VGA display, plus 'Registration Lite', allowing new users to grab up to 10 free applications without having to register a Nokia Account. Full changelog below.

From the Beta Labs blog, here's the changelog from the previous beta:

Update 06.11.2011 - Version 3.20.044

  • Support for Arabic, Hebrew and Kazakh languages
  • Support for VGA resolution for Devices such as Nokia E6
  • Registration Lite: Allows new consumers to download up to 10 free apps without the need to create a Nokia account – Note that this feature will only be activated on/after December 16th
  • Improved Virtual Keyboard for Text Entry, allows users to enter text directly in the entry form entry fields  “utilizing a split-screen view”
  • Improved Search Experience: Spelling correction and Alternative results
  • Improved reliability for operator billing while connecting via WLAN. Note that this only applies to WAP-Direct billing methods

Here's the download page (ignore the N8/E7 only header) - it's a hefty 20MB download, since all the Qt runtimes are included - I thought the point of going down the Qt route was that the Smart Installer system only download these runtimes if they were actually needed? Strange.
