Gulp - world's largest stop-motion animation shot on N8

Published by at

Nokia in conjunction with Sumo Science at Aardman have shot the world's largest stop-motion animation short film. Gulp was shot on an N8 at Pendine Beach in South Wales, with the largest scene in the filmed stretched over 11,000 square feet. Gulp follows on from Dot, the world's smallest stop-motion animation film, which was also shot on a Nokia N8.

While Gulp is clearly intended as a promotion for the capabilities of the Nokia N8's 12 megapixel camera and its Carl-Zeiss optics, there's no denying it is an impressive achievement. The scale of the project only becomes obvious when you watch the making of video (embedded below).

Gulp. The making of.

This making of video that takes you behind the scenes of Gulp. It explains some of the difficulties encountered over the five day shoot while operating on such a scale and outside the controlled environment of a studio.

Three N8's were used to shoot the film - they were suspended several hundred feet above the beach in a box hung from a cherry picker (crane). Each frame of the film consists of a single still shot by an N8.
