361 Degrees podcast episode #4 - NFC

Published by at

Following on from the firstsecond and third episodes, here is the fourth episode of the 361 Degrees podcast. This is a podcast all about mobile technology, created by Ben Smith of Wireless Worker and co-hosted by Ewan MacLeod of Mobile Industry Review and Rafe Blandford of All About Symbian. The fourth episode features discussion on NFC - what is it, what does it do and what are some of the issues surrounding its deployment.

In Episode 4 we recap Ewan's recent Unlimited Drinks event and then set about discussing the hot-topic of the moment... NFC (Near Field Communication). With help from 'special guest' Raymond Lee an expert from Consult Hyperion we discuss:

  • What is NFC?

  • How and where could it be deployed?

  • Who the key players are and some potential conflict

  • Ben's frustration that the focus on 'mobile wallets' ignores better uses

  • Ewan's view that Apple could be the company to move NFC payments into the mainstream

  • Rafe's concern that the global standards needed will be tripped up by the number of organisations involved

In working together to create the 361 Degrees podcast, Ben, Ewan and I hope to create an offering that would offer the readers, of all our sites, a sampling of a broader range of topics than we might usually cover individually. We're keen to hear your feedback so please leave your comments below, or on one of the other sites hosting the audio content.
