Nokia Shoot and Tag

Published by at

Now available as an 'experimental beta' for all S60 5th Edition and Symbian^3 phones, Nokia Shoot & Tag is a camera-centric utility that allows video capture with automatic scene detection and then lets you browse through scenes later on. The idea, as usual, is to get the public to try the interface and ideas before the concept is (or isn't) rolled out into device firmware. Links and a video below.

From the Beta Labs blog post:

We invite you to try out Nokia Shoot & Tag beta, a video recording application for Symbian^3 and S60 5th Edition phones that incorporates automatic scene-tagging technology.  When filming videos with Shoot & Tag, the video tagging technology automatically recognizes shifts or changes in the background images being recorded and will tag the change as a new scene or chapter in your video.  After you finish recording, you can quickly browse through your video's scenes by simply clicking on the pre-organized scene frames located on the left side of the screen.

To grab the experimental utility, sign into Nokia Beta Labs and then download the application. Note that 720p video recording isn't possible yet on the Nokia N8 for technical reasons. One interesting aspect of Nokia Shoot & Tag is that it accesses the camera independently of the usual software and so auto-focus is possible (a theme I'll come back to tomorrow in my review of CameraPro N8).

If you do try Nokia Point & Shoot, make sure to send the team your feedback.
