The Samsung i8910 HD gets HX-V11-5

Published by at

Just when you thought that HX-V8-32 firmware was the last 'hurrah' of the Samsung i8910 HD, along comes HyperX and his team to push the venerable smartphone to one final chapter. HX-V11-5 includes full Qt integration and extensive customisation options, some of which are listed below. There are still ways in which the i8910 remains the top dog in the Symbian world (besting the N8 with stereo speakers, larger display, etc.) so this new release is particularly interesting.

Here's the main Download page for HX-V11-5, available in EFIGS (English, French, Italian, German and Spanish). And here's a summary of what's new (since V8, itself a huge upgrade from previous efforts):

  • Qt 4.7 RC1 is full integrated, so Qt-based applications should work just fine (they were a pain on previous HX firmwares)
  • You can now change which virtual qwerty keyboard is used by the OS
  • All virtual keyboards/languages are now Swype-compatible
  • There's a big new version of HX-Patcher, letting you change CPU speed, device ID, browser ID and more
  • There's a '100% Backup' tool, to back up EVERYTHING to card

Comments welcome if you try HX-V11-5 - how stable is it for you and please do share any customisation tips for other readers!
