Nokia's CO2 emissions down 12% as they publish their 2009 Sustainability Report

Nokia have published their “Sustainability Report” for their activities in 2009. As well as highlighting their position as a “World Technology Supersector Leader” by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, it draws attention to a reduction of CO2 by 12% since 2006, and achieving their energy savings target for 2012 three years early.

Nokia EVP Esko Aho is leading the Corporate Relations and Responsibilities for the company: “We believe that mobile technologies can contribute to economic growth while offering considerable opportunities to address climate change and sustainability."

While the announcing of “green goals” might seem a bit self-congratulatory,  the more companies that are happy to step up to the plate and say they are doing something and continuing to challenge themselves should help drive others to do the same. In these economic times, using less resources also has a positive impact on the bottom line for a company, so everybody wins!
