The goal of Point and Find is that you can point your smartphone towards a building or location in a city, and then using a combination of the available sensors (GPS, imaging, even barcode scanning through the camera or NFC chips if they are available in the hardware), you’ll be presented with as much user generated information that the service can find.
As with all the Nokia Beta Labs products, Point and Find is still growing, and there may be patchy coverage where you happen to be visiting - always the case with a user generated content driven app, although I would suspect a lot of data from Ovi Maps is going to be shared behind the scenes.
There’s the promise of more interaction with the team at the Nokia Point and Find Blog as well, with the Community Manager Adena De Monte introducing the services to those new to it.
You can download the Point and Find software from the Ovi Store.
