Firmware Tuesday: Nokia 5800 moves to 50.0.005

Published by at

After a few sporadic sightings yesterday, the full roll out of firmware version 50.0.005 for the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music has begun. The popular touch-screen device receives kinetic scrolling in the application menu, an updated version of Ovi Maps (free navigation and location sharing), minor updates to a number of other applications and the usual bug fixes and performance updates.

As always we would recommend you do a full backup of your device to preserve your data, even though it should stay on your device thanks to User Data Preservation.

5800 Update to v50

Major changes that we can see so far include:

  • Kinetic scrolling in application menus (brining the kinetic scrolling features in line with the N97 PR 2.0 software).

  • Ovi Maps updated to version 3.03, includes Lifecasting option and free car and pedestrian navigation.

  • Ovi Store client updated.

  • Windows 7 device stage support.

As always, check both the PC based Nokia Software Updater and the OTA Updates, and be aware it may take some time to progress around the world.

We'll continue to update this story as we explore the new firmware.
