Nokia donating all their fees for the Helping Haiti charity single

Published by Ewan Spence at 23:35 GMT, February 26th 2010

It’s taken some time, but Nokia are reporting that the Helping Haiti charity single, a cover of REM’s “Everybody Hurts” is now available in the Nokia Music Store. Proceeds from the single are split between two funds in the UK – which is great if you pay for the download, but what happens if you use Comes with Music?

The good news is that it makes no difference. REM have waived all royalties, including digital, while Sony and Syco (the publishers) are donating 100% of the receipts. As for the reporting of the number of downloads, Nokia have told All About Symbian that they “…are also donating our fee and paying publishing fees and the Comes With Music downloads are being reported on and will be treated in the same way as our A La Carte section."

You can download the track from the following regional Music Stores

You can also donate directly to The Sun’s Helping Haiti fund online.

I'm not sure if how did they help Haiti for that, but the thing is helping big will result to a big success. Karma!

Personally, I think the song's an awful cover.

Buy the original and give a few quid to a charity - there's bound to be someone in the music chain who's making some money which they won't get if you give directly.
