Third party IMDb widget released

Published by at

Moubail is a handy place for third party S60 5th Edition widgets, being the home of DeviceInfo, which I've used for the last year. IMDb is the latest project, providing touchscreen, Web-like lookup of information in the Internet Movie Database. Read on for some screens, links and comments.

Here's the widget in action, querying the IMDb and bringing back the basic information. Note that there are some limitations: long text fields are truncated (presumably by the IMDb APIs), but you still get enough back to get an idea of each search result and the widget is especially useful for following a trail of actors and the films they've been in - e.g. to settle an argument down the pub.

There's the opportunity to extend the search out to Google, YouTube, Wikipedia, and so on, with the search string nicely handled for you - very, very welcome. Seen below is part of the linked Wikipedia entry, for example. Also shown below is one of the many donation requests - the developer exists on donations, so do send him a few dollars if you like and use the widget.

Aside from the truncated text strings, the only oddity I experienced was that the first character of my typed search strings on the N97 always got mangled and had to be re-typed. Very strange.

Here's the main download link for the IMDb widget.
