WebKit still receiving contributions from Nokia, Apple, Google and Rim

While you can argue about what the numbers actually mean, it’s nice to see that the main players in mobile browser are all feeding back changes to the WebKit open-source project. Alongside Nokia (and Trolltech), Apple, Google and RIM are all contributing in some form, as shown in Evan Martin's blog post to the Chromium web

I’m not going to get drawn into the debates about how certain companies have made more changes than others, how much of the interest is focused around respective product releases, or anything else that people want to argue (for example the lack of a xenon flash .api).

What I want to draw attention is simply that this is an open source project that has got contributors and involvement outside of a small circle of people. Many projects launch in a blaze of glory and then have just a few coders working on the code – WebKit has not fallen into that trap, so congratulations all round in making a browser core that delivers the best solution possible to each platform.

It will be interesting to see who continues to commit changes to the Symbian source code now that’s open!
