Check-in to FourSquare on the side

Published by Ewan Spence at 10:36 UTC, February 8th 2010

For those of you who use FourSquare (a geo-location social network and game all rolled into one), you might be interested to know that you can check-in to the game via a third party service, Waze. Details are over on SmashPop if you’d happier using this method than SMS or the mobile website.

FourSquare is one of many geo-games that are starting to make some big numbers, but it’s probably the one with the most noted pedigree and has got first mover advantage. Founder Dennis Crowley previously worked on the similarly focused start-up Dodgeball that was bought (and mothballed) by Google.

Having recently passed the million check-ins per week milestone, and recently announcing a Blackberry version of their client (the US company started on the iPhone), I’m expecting a Symbian S60 version to be along in the near future. Till then I’m happy with m.foursquare.com but Waze does provide a more graphical look if that’s to your liking.

Here's the original announcement, including a video showing the experience on both the Nokia E72 (non-touchscreen) and the N97 Mini (touchscreen)

It has taken me since the very launch day, to even get Waze to ACCEPT my Foursquare sign in/login, as it asks for it in the format of "username/password".

Whereas foursquare itself, asks for it in the format "email address or phone no./password".

(HINT: on the phone, use your EMAIL address, as the USERNAME)

As if that wasn't bad enough however, after finally 'pairing' foursquare with my waze, every time I actually try and USE it, and go to "Report > Foursquare", all I ever get, time and time again is "parser: error"

So it's totally USELESS for me.

If any other UK users have any better joy than me, I'd love to hear it...
